“Potato Bake” the South African way:
Ingredients:
- 6 medium potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1 packet of brown onion soup
- 2 cups of boiling water
- 1 cup of milk
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a mixing bowl, mix the brown onion soup with 2 cups of boiling water until it’s dissolved.
- Add 1 cup of milk and mix well.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes at the bottom.
- Pour half of the brown onion soup mixture over the potatoes.
- Repeat the layering with the remaining potatoes and brown onion soup mixture.
- Cut 1 tablespoon of butter into small pieces and scatter it on top of the potato mixture.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are cooked through.
- Serve hot and enjoy your delicious South African Potato Bake!
